Words of Encouragement from Fife Graduate

Here’s a great story from Andrew Giddings, English teacher at Fife High School:

A former College English student of mine, Resa Sanderson, stopped by to visit today during my prep period.  She’s currently a sophomore at St. Martin’s University.  Among the various personal updates, she told me that the College English course she took here was essentially the first two English courses she took in college.

In particular, she cited the Viva la Research assignment where students write 5 or 6 short research papers, one due every 2 weeks, with a larger research paper due at the end.  She explained that many of her classmates had not been prepared nearly as well, some of them even being ignorant of the existence of, let alone how to use, Proquest and other basic library resources.

She was very glad to hear that Heather Robison is continuing that rigorous research preparation in the College English course and said to convey this message to her current students.  “Tell them they’ll be happy they did it later.”
